Principal's Message
August 2024
Dear Parents,
The entire staff and I welcome you to Shields Elementary School. We are excited to begin a new school year. I look forward to meeting you and partnering this upcoming school year to best support your child’s education. We embrace the CPS vision that “Success Starts Here”!
The staff at Shields is eager and ready to educate and challenge your children. We are proud of our reputation city wide for being an excellent Chicago Public School and we are committed to upholding this standing. We also look forward to developing a strong partnership between your home, the community and our school. As your neighborhood school, Shields strives to be the place where children want to come, learn, and feel good about themselves.
Please review the calendar that is sent home the beginning of each month and visit our website at Shields.cps.edu for information regarding events and school related information. Also, please check the calendar for the Open House dates this month. We strongly encourage you to participate so you can meet your child’s teacher and hear about the exciting educational programs here at Shields.
This year will continue to have a Safe Passage program to help keep our students and families safe on their way to and from school. In addition, we will continue our morning drop off system for students. We encourage you to walk your child to school, but if you need to drive, please plan additional time for the drop off. Remember that the entry bell rings at 7:55 AM and students should be in line with their class ready to start their day. Classes begin promptly at 8:00 AM and students arriving at 8:05 AM or later are considered tardy.
As we prepare for another great school year, I want to express my gratitude to the ensemble at Shields School for their hard work, dedication, and professionalism. It is their passion for educational excellence and their commitment to our students and families that makes Shields feel like a family.
Whether you are returning this year or are new in the neighborhood, I want to extend a warm welcome to you as part of the Shields Elementary School family and look forward to having a magnificent school year!
Sincerely yours,
Michael T. Pacourek
